Tissue microarrays (TMAs) possess significant advantages over traditional histological approaches including the analysis of many patient samples simultaneously, complete automation, conservation of precious tissue samples, improved internal experimental control, reduced consumption of antibodies and other reagents, and wide applicability to many molecular techniques including mRNA and protein expression analysis, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, FISH and in situ PCR.
